About the band

About 18 months ago Keel The Puppet played in public for the first time in almost 30 years at Albie’s in Utica. Since then they have been appearing regularly at area clubs and have been involved in donating their time to perform at such community events as The Concert Series For Life ’06, Boilermaker ’06, and Project Children & The Four Acres Reunion (3/07). They are currently slated to play at the upcoming benefit for the Thomas Lindsey Fund (5/12/07). Originally the three founding members of Keel, Jim, Jim and Sta, were in an eight- piece horn band, Fountain. Keel the Puppet formed in 1977, adding lead singer and rhythm guitar player, Mark Frank, of Rome, New York. With Frank no longer in the area, Spencer Morgan, sixteen -year old son of bassist Jim Morgan, joined the group when its members decided to reunite. Keel played jobs from Canada to Pennsylvania and everywhere in between. During the 1970’s area churches and high schools commonly held dances that always featured live music. Keel appeared at St. Agnes, St. Francis DeSales, U.C.A., Notre Dame, Whitesboro and Proctor. Local bars and clubs would have live music from Thursday through Sunday, and places like “The Oasis”, “Four Acres” and the “Corner Lounge” would be jammed. If you felt like dancing or just hearing some great music, there were always several options. Until recently, the live music scene in the area all but disappeared. Thankfully, the trend now seems to be moving in a more positive direction. More and more local bars and clubs are featuring live bands. Be sure to keep checking this website for upcoming appearances, live recordings and photos of past shows.

Thanks for supporting live music and “Rock On!”
